Oklahoma City stands in the centre of one of America's most legendary roads, Route 66. Oklahoma City's most pleasant season may be autumn, which is not too hot, not too cold and tornado-free. The spring months of April and May bring Oklahoma City's biggest weather risks, tornadoes, as the city sits in the middle of the infamous Tornado Alley. Winter snowfalls are usually light and cold spells brief. July and August are Oklahoma City's most humid and hottest months, while the coldest season begins in December and ends in February. Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has been a protected area and a campground since 1935. Guthrie is home to the world's biggest Masonic complex and a publishing museum. Oklahoma City and Tulsa may be just 100 miles apart but the lesser known Oklahoma city of Guthrie, the state's original capital, lies just 30 miles north of the current capital with car hire in Oklahoma City Airport. The airport is also home to a museum dedicated to female pilots. Among the airport's most unusual amenities is a pet relief area where animals can roam freely in a grassy area surrounded by a white picket fence. No fewer than eight dealerships offer ample opportunities to compare car hire here. Nearly 3.5 million visitors passed through the 17 gates of this airport's impressive terminal in 2010. Although the airport's official name is Will Rogers World Airport, no international flights are offered here. Downtown Oklahoma City is six miles away with car rental in Oklahoma City Airport. Many years after legendary comedian, cowboy and Oklahoma native Will Rogers was killed in a plane crash, the state's busiest airport now bears his name.
